Fintech M&A Deal Volume

In the first half of 2024, M&A volume in the FinTech sector was healthy with 308 deals. Both strategic and financial acquirers were active in this space; 30% of the deals were made by Private Equity buyers.

Looking at VC funding, these investments have dried up in recent years after peaking in 2021 and that trend continued throughout 2023. Companies are instead encouraged to turn to M&A strategies for growth and liquidity.

Fintech Top Buyers

At the top of the buyers leaderboard were PE firms Cinven and Edgewater Equity Partners with 3 deals each. Other major buyers included PE companies Bain Capital, Parthenon Capital Partners, Nordic Capital and strategic buyer Thomson Reuters, each acquiring 2 companies in the first half of 2024.

Fintech M&A Disclosed Value

Only 15% of FinTech transactions disclosed their deal value as buyers kept their M&A strategies secret.
